Today was Xiao Nian. When I was at work, this guy aptly messaged me saying that he would cook dumplings and wait for me at home. Then, he asked if I was pleasantly surprised.

Honestly, I wasn’t surprised at all and even wanted to laugh.

This guy has come to love talking about ‘sense of ceremony’, as if a spotlight is being shone on him at all times. He even needs to light aromatherapy candles before going to bed.

Sometimes, I suspect that he’s born the wrong gender.

He should be a girl, right?

But thinking of his cooking, I immediately dispelled that thought.

This guy can make a mess out of the kitchen just from boiling an egg. He’s definitely a straight steel man! 

Although many girls say that they can’t cook, this kind of thing is part of their innate talent. Even if they’re not good at cooking, their food is not unpalatable. At the very least, it won’t be difficult to swallow.

However, this guy is different. If his food isn’t half-cooked, then it’s scorched black.

If his answer was the latter, I would rather sleep in my office tonight than go back home.

After a long time, he replied that he was making frozen dumplings. Wrapping dumplings were too hard for him, so he’s waiting for me to come home and teach him.

I was finally relieved when I saw that message.

It’s good that he couldn’t wrap dumplings, or else I really can’t imagine what kind of tragedy I would have to deal with when I returned home.

“What kind of dumplings did you buy? I don’t eat every kind,” I sent him a voice message.

Actually, I could’ve just typed the message and sent it to him that way, but for some reason, I wanted him to listen to my voice.

I had always said that I didn’t like voice messages, so he must’ve found it strange when I sent it out of nowhere.

Suddenly feeling a little shy, I tried to retract the message in a fluster.

At that moment, he sent back a voice message of his own.

I put on my headphones just to listen to him say, “Don’t worry, I know your taste. But…why did you suddenly send me a voice message? Are you busy? Is it inconvenient to text?”

Very good, he found a suitable reason for me.

“En¹,” I typed. 

However, I hesitated the moment before I sent it.

Is it too cold to reply with just one word? 

Thinking of this, I deleted it the text and sent him another voice message.

“Wait for me to return home.”

After a while, he replied with, “Waiting for you.”

Although it was only three words, he also sent a voice message.

There was suddenly a trace of joy in my heart. It was as if we’ve had a small tacit understanding. With that thought, the corners of my mouth unconsciously lifted up to a smile.

When my assistant came to the office to look for me, he joked and asked if I had a girlfriend.

Ai… If only he were a girl. 

This way, I could proudly tell others that I have a virtuous childhood sweetheart who prepares dinner for me, and reap a lot of envious eyes.
